Karim Benzema (Real Madrid forward) has once again stressed on the fact that he isn’t planning on leaving Real Madrid anytime soon. Benzema also responded to the reports which were linking him with a move to Arsenal in the summer, by reiterating that he was perfectly happy at Real Madrid and had settled into life at Madrid comfortably.
Karim Benzema, at 27, is possibly in the best form of his life and has been one of those consistent players at Real Madrid who don’t make much ruckus about their futures and quietly work for the team every time they step onto the pitch.
Why would Real Madrid want to get rid of such a player is a question that should be asked to the authors of those media reports that had Benzema going to Liverpool about two seasons ago in a done deal.
The truth is, there is absolutely no chance of Real Madrid selling Benzema anytime in the future. He is the best forward in Europe and currently, there isn’t a player on the face of the earth that can replace Benzema’s contribution on the pitch playing at the position Benzema plays in.
Aguero is a different sort of striker and the best three forwards lamentably play for Barcelona namely Messi, Neymar and Suarez.
But apart from that, here are the reasons that Benzema (independent of what Real Madrid do) would not want to leave Real Madrid for any other club.
- Benzema’s perfect partnership with Ronaldo and Bale not only ensures goals for Real Madrid but also a sense of accomplishment on part of Benzema.
If he moves to another club, who knows what would happen to his mental make up.
As has happened to players like Torres, Shevchenko, Henry and Ibrahimovic, once they move to a new club whose ideology of playing football doesn’t match their own, they go bust real soon. And we’re not even counting the possibility that new teammates might not complement Benzema’s strengths on the field which would hamper his own contributions on the field.
Benzema would not want to take that big a risk at this moment in his career. He is scoring a reasonable amount of goals. He is setting up even more goals for Ronaldo and Bale.
Ronaldo is the probably the fastest left winger in the world right now, he is definitely the most effective and that plays nicely to Benzema’s strengths who likes to setup quick player from a central position in and around the penalty area.
Apart from that, Benzema now has the added luxury and assurance of Gareth Bale at Real Madrid now. Gareth Bale, without doubt, is the next Ronaldo for Real Madrid and he is a year younger than Karim.
Once Ronaldo is gone (Ronaldo is 31 now)Benzema can look forward to connect and combine with Bale for at least six or seven years more just like he has formed a lethal partnership with Ronaldo in all the previous years.
The only difference would be that this time, Benzema would have to work with a left footed player coming in from the right flank instead of Ronaldo who is a right footed player with a tendency to drift inwards into the 18 yard box.
As far Benzema is concerned, he doesn’t have to improve an inch for the next decade or so and he is all set at Real Madrid simply because the system in which Real Madrid play, falls perfectly into Benzema’s preferred mode of attack.
- No one bothers Benzema about goals at Real Madrid. And that won’t be the case everywhere.
Standards are rising fast these days on what is considered as a valuable return for a forward (thanks to astronomical numbers put up by Messi and Ronaldo for the past seven years) in terms of goals scored.
Benzema hasn’t scored in more than 22 goals for the past 4 seasons and that won’t be acceptable at a club like Chelsea, Manchester City or even AC Milan who, if they do sign Benzema, would totally rely on his goal scoring exploits to win games.
At Real Madrid, there is no such pressure because scoring goals is really not his job on the pitch when he has Ronaldo on side and Bale on the other.
Benzema’s effectiveness on the pitch is far more than mere number of goals scored. He opens up spaces for other players to run in. He can hold off defenders, even with his back turned against the opposition, close to the penalty area and wait for his teammates to make penetrating runs.
His distribution of the ball is excellent for a centre forward and his work off the ball is in a class of its own.
The one aspect, where Ronaldo is his only rival, is chest control. Benzema can even tame goal kicks onto his chest with a defender on his back and keep possession and that asset is vital for Real Madrid against teams that defend high and close done quick.
- Benzema can win trophies which would do his talents justice only at Real Madrid. Since Barcelona is not an option for Karim, the only other club that guarantees its players major trophies rather regularly is Real Madrid.
Benzema is at a point in his career where he has to win trophies now to leave any sort of legacy as a great french striker. Benzema would definitely not want to hurt his chances of achieving that if he suddenly moves to another club where he might or might not win titles.
Arsenal is a big no-no if a player wants to win major titles with any consistency at all. Liverpool, is not a powerhouse it was since it beat AC Milan in a dramatic Champions League final.
Hence, Real Madrid is the only club for Benzema to keep doing what he is doing and still win trophies. There is simply no other club where Benzema would as as central a player as he is for Real Madrid.
Real Madrid won’t sell Benzema under any circumstances and Benzema shouldn’t leave Real Madrid under any situation as both feed off each others strength.
Real Madrid can offer Benzema the trophies, the money and the legacy, without much work I might add since Benzema is so comfortable and effective in his current role, Benzema could ever want in his football career.
