Bad news first. Khedira got injured while playing for Germany against Italy. Andre Pirlo of all people had a clash with Khedira and even more astonishing was the fact that it was Khedira who came out of that challenge with a tear in his knee ligament. Khedira will miss the rest of the season for Real Madrid and is even  a doubt for the World Cup which is starting in June of next year.

This may not be all bad news for Real Madrid on the other hand. Real Madrid were flowing with extra players in the middle of the park. Khedira’s injury leaves 4 or 5 players competing for 3 positions(assuming Real Madrid play 4-3-3) in the current Real Madrid squad which is much favorable condition than last year when players with the quality of Higuain, Kaka, Ozil, Di Maria were not getting enough playing time.

Khedira’s injury presents an opportunity for Isco, Illaramendi and Modric to cement their places in the team because the trio of Ronaldo, Bale and Benzema/Di Maria have got their places locked up tight so the only place left to be filled is in the midfield. Alonso has just returned and is not really 90 minute fit yet so there is a small window of opportunity there as well.

The really good news is that Ronaldo scored against Sweden in the World Cup qualifier and Ibrahimovic (former Barcelona player) did absolute zero to change the course of the match. Portugal won the first leg of the World Cup play off (with the winner going to the World Cup) 1-0 thanks to a headed goal from Ronaldo. Ronaldo also hid the post in the same match.

Now Portugal  at least have to draw the away leg in Sweden to win the whole tie and go to the World Cup.

Ronaldo now needs about 28 goals in 9 games in order to break Messi’s record of 91 goals a season. Talking about records, I think when it comes to January Awards for World Player of The Year, Messi is still going to win this edition. Don’t know, but coaches and football captains like to vote for Messi based on his reputation rather than on field performance. Messi loses on both fronts of performance and titles this year. Ronaldo was the better performer (as he was at least once before) and Ribery won the treble (Sneijder, Milito and Robben got screwed  in favor of Messi previously) .

So  its going to be interesting who UEFA screw this season. My guess for the winning Line up?
